Hsipaw, is a small town in Eastern Shan State, Myanmar on the banks of the Duthawadi River. It is 200 km north-east of Mandalay and it is a must see destination for intrepid travelers. Surrounded by mountainous landscapes and farmland Hsipaw has become the gateway for those wishing to explore the hills to visit ethnic minority groups and see how life outside of the cities still operates. It is good to do multi-day treks through imposing scenery to stay with the hill tribes or cycling through the agricultural fields just outside of town. Hsipaw boasts one of the most unique markets in the country where tribal minorities from the region congregate to sell produce and other various products – This is definitely a local affair. Hsipaw has developed enough basic traveler infrastructure to attract those seeking to venture even further off the beaten track and learn more about the fascinating way of life of the robust Shan people.

Kyaukme

Kyaukme is a small market town located on the motor road as well as rail routes between Mandalay and Lashio which is the main China-Myanmar trade. It is four hours drive away from Mandalay. The highlights of this town are the bustling market and some colonial-era buildings adjacent to the market.

It is a trading town in Northern Shan State, accessible by road from Mandalay. From Lashio, the famous Burma Road built by the British before the War, intersects with Ledo Road leading into the Yunnan Province. The highlight about this trip is to enjoy the most spectaculars scenic views of the Shan plateau traveling one way by winding road with elbow crossing hilly drive and the other way by train with twisting and turning hilly trek. Crossing over historic Gokehtaik viaduct will be an unforgettable experience. There is a hot spa near Lashio which is always crowded with local pilgrimages to enjoy the nature warmed both of they believe bathing here will purify body and mind.

Muse

Muse, a small town on the banks of the Shweli River, is the main border gateway betw een Myanmar and Yunnan Province (China). Located 190km from Lashio, it is a bustling trading centre.
